Your own private Irish pub
The original bar is still the heart of Conroy's.
The pumps, optics, stone floors, polished bar and quirky details from its days as a working village pub have all been retained.
The space has been carefully updated around those features, rather than replacing them.
We provide the taps, cooler and gas. Guests bring their own kegs and other drinks to stock their own private bar.
Cook dinner, gather around the bar, play cards, enjoy a few drinks or settle in for the evening with the whole pub to yourselves.
There are no closing hours here.

Stay at Conroy's
Conroy's Old Bar comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests.
The accommodation has been refreshed and remodelled to make it more comfortable for modern stays, while keeping the unusual layout and original features that give the building its personality.
You'll find comfortable sleeping accommodation, modern bathroom facilities, a self-catering kitchen and plenty of space to relax.
Some of the sleeping areas still retain features from the old snug and barrel store.
And yes, you really can sleep only a few steps from the bar.

Bringing a bigger group?
Conroy's can also be booked together with the adjoining house, which sleeps an additional 15 guests.
Together, the two properties can accommodate up to 21 people.

The adjoining house gives everyone plenty of sleeping space, while Conroy's naturally becomes the place to gather.

Right in the heart of Ireland
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Conroy's is the location.
We are almost smack dab in the centre of the island of Ireland, making it an ideal base for exploring the country.
A large part of Ireland is within around two hours' drive or less, so you can head off in almost any direction for the day and still be back at your own bar that evening.
Explore castles, towns, lakes, countryside and some of Ireland's best-known destinations, all from one central base.

There is plenty to see and do without travelling far.
Golf
Golfers have four golf courses nearby, making Conroy's a great base for a few days on the course. Play during the day, then head home to your own private pub.

Visit the impressive Portumna Castle and enjoy the surrounding town, countryside and Lough Derg region.

There is outdoor space to sit, relax, enjoy a barbecue or have a drink in the evening.
On a clear night, the rural setting and low light pollution make it a great place to sit outside and enjoy the night sky.

The Northern Lights
On some nights, the Northern Lights reach this far south.
Aglish is dark enough that, when the sky is clear and the conditions are right, you can see them from the garden or the road.
It does not happen every stay. When it does, you will not forget it.

The important bits stayed
Conroy's Old Bar became known as the world's first self-catering pub, welcoming visitors from around the world who wanted to experience something completely different.
Then the doors closed to holiday guests.
When we bought it in January 2024, we chose not to reopen it immediately.
We wanted time to live with the building, understand it and decide how best to bring it forward without losing what made it special.
Since then, Conroy's has been remodelled, refreshed and updated.
But the important bits stayed.
The bar stayed.
The original features stayed.
The character stayed.
The little quirks stayed too.
We never wanted Conroy's to become a generic holiday rental with a few pub decorations added for effect.
It had to still feel like Conroy's.
Now, under new ownership, it is ready for guests again.
The world's first self-catering pub is back, and better than before.
